Thursday stalls in Joymount car park
The weekly market sets up every Thursday from 8am to 2pm in Joymount car park (BT38 7DN), beside Carrickfergus Town Hall. The YMCA manages it for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
Expect fresh fruit and vegetables, baking, clothes, plants and household goods. The market takes part of the car park, so park on High Street or at the castle.
Makers in Market Place on the first Saturday
The Carrickfergus Artisan Market runs on the first Saturday of the month from February to November, 11am to 3pm, in Market Place (BT38 7AW), a few minutes' walk from the castle gate.
Local makers, bakers and food producers sell here. In winter or bad weather the market moves into the Town Hall on Joymount.
Market Place has held trade since the Market House went up there in 1755, with open arches for stalls beside St Nicholas' Church.
Wednesday in Larne Market Yard
Larne's market runs every Wednesday from 8am to 1pm in the Market Yard on Station Road, about 25 minutes up the coast. The council restored the yard's Victorian market house and sheds, and has its offices there.
Christmas: a marquee on High Street, then Broadway in Larne
Carrickfergus switches on its lights on a Saturday afternoon in late November, around High Street and Market Place. In recent years a Christmas market of local crafters has filled a marquee in the High Street car park that afternoon.
In mid-December the council runs the Larne Christmas Artisan Market on Broadway for about five days, 11am to 4pm, closed on the Sunday.
Booking a pitch with the YMCA or the council
For the Thursday market, phone the YMCA. For Larne, the artisan market and the Christmas markets, phone the council on 028 9335 8273. Book ahead and bring your own gazebo and tables.
To sell away from a market, apply to the council's Licensing Section. It charges £10 a day for a market pitch, £110 for a temporary licence and £300 a year for a fixed spot. Phone Licensing at Larne on 028 2826 2498.
Autumn and Christmas fairs from Whitehead to Islandmagee
The Gobbins Visitor Centre, 68 Middle Road, Islandmagee, has held an autumn craft fair on an early-November Saturday, 10am to 3pm. Ask on 028 9337 2318 for this year's date.
Whitehead Community Association has run the Victorian Street Fair on a late-November Saturday, with festive stalls, cheaper steam train rides at the railway museum and music. Check the council's events page before you travel.
