Wednesday mornings in the Asda car park, Castle Square

Bangor Market trades every Wednesday from 8am to 1pm in the Asda car park at Castle Square, BT20 4SP. Stalls sell local fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh fish, and seasonal plants and shrubs.

The council says the market has been a Bangor tradition for over 100 years. Come early for the best choice of fish. Part of the car park is taken by stalls, so drivers park further back.

Getting a pitch from the Ards and North Down licensing team

The Wednesday market has no online booking. Contact the council's Environmental Health and Regulatory Services team on 0300 013 3333 or [email protected] and ask about a pitch, the fee and the paperwork. The same team handles street trading licences.

Seafront and festival pitches go through the council's ANDBC Trading Application form on the Visit Ards and North Down site. Tick the events you want. It closes in mid-March, and Bangor traders and AND Food Network members are picked first.

Sea Bangor at Eisenhower Pier and Taste AND at the Castle

Sea Bangor takes over Eisenhower Pier car park on Quay Street over a weekend in late May. Stalls and food sit beside boat trips, rowing races and a funfair, with a quiet hour before noon.

On the last weekend of September, Taste Ards and North Down brings over 30 local producers to the West Lawn and City Hall forecourt at Bangor Castle, 11am to 5pm. Admission is free. The Chilli Festival fills the walled garden next door.

Christmas in Castle Park and the Marine Gardens

Christmas in the City comes on a late-November weekend, with hot food stalls and a bar in the Bangor Castle grounds. The North Down Museum opens its Made in AND pop-up shop, selling gifts from more than 20 local makers.

In early December, Market Place, the team behind the Belfast Christmas Market, runs a three-day Bangor Christmas Market in the Marine Gardens on the waterfront. It opens Friday to Sunday, with shorter hours on the Sunday.

Pop-ups in Bangor halls, and Holywood and Donaghadee

Market Fresh, run by Sharon Regan, has held artisan markets with 40 or more stalls at St Comgall's Parish Centre on Brunswick Road. The Old Market House at 77 Main Street, built in 1780, has hosted an autumn artisan market.

Holywood's May Day puts stalls along High Street by the maypole on the May bank holiday Monday, 10am to 4pm. Donaghadee holds an evening Christmas market by its community centre in early December, when Santa usually lands by RNLI lifeboat.

Train to Abbey Street, and markets down the A21

Trains from Belfast Grand Central to Bangor station on Abbey Street usually run every half hour and stop at Holywood. Castle Square is a short walk downhill. Council pay-and-display car parks include Upper Court Street and West Street.
