Grown, baked or made by the stallholder
One rule shapes the whole market. Goods must be grown, reared or caught by the stallholder; brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or cooked by them; or made in large part by them. Nothing is bought in to sell on.
Expect local bacon and meat, fish, breads and griddle goods, jams, chutneys, cakes and fudge, beside jewellery, ceramics, candles, woodturning and paintings of the Causeway Coast. The 2019 traders' manual allowed samples of hot food, not hot meals for sale.
Second Saturdays in the Diamond, plus Christmas
The council says the market is held in the events space at Coleraine Town Hall. In practice that is the open square of the Diamond around the hall: council papers call it the largest regular outdoor market in Northern Ireland, with marquees for each stall.
It runs 9am to 4pm on the second Saturday of every month, with a second market on the fourth Saturday from April to December. There was no January market in 2026.
For Christmas 2026 the council lists 28 November, 12 and 13 December (the Christmas Market) and 19 December. Because the market is outdoors, the council posts weather news on the market's Facebook page.
Set-up by 8.30am, and the wind rule
These come from the council's traders' manual and requirements; the forms on the Trade With Us page are the current word.
- Vans unloaded and away from the Town Hall by 8.30am
- Market called off or stalls taken down in winds over 25 mph
- Food traders: registered food business and hygiene certificate
- Electrical items PAT tested
- Public and products liability insurance for outdoor markets
Journey to Market for new borough makers
The council relaunched its Journey to Market programme for the market's 20th year. Each group takes about ten borough-based artisan producers and gives them training and support towards a regular stall. Ask the market team when the next group opens.
From the station to the Town Hall
Coleraine railway station and bus centre are a short walk from the Diamond, BT52 1DE, so the train from Belfast or Derry~Londonderry is an easy way in. Council car parks close by include Abbey Street, Long Commons and Railway Road.
The market started in April 2006 with 12 stalls once a month. It now has room for 52 traders, and it was named the UK's Best Small Outdoor Market in the 2024 Great British Market Awards.
