Saturdays at Coleraine Town Hall

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council runs the Causeway Speciality Market in the events space at Coleraine Town Hall, on the Diamond. It opens 9am to 4pm on the second Saturday of every month, plus the fourth Saturday from April to December.

There is no January market, and December has extra Christmas dates. The market has room for up to 52 traders, and weather changes go on its Facebook page. The Diamond is a short walk from Coleraine train and bus station.

What the Speciality Market's stallholders sell

Everything is grown, reared or caught by the stallholder, or brewed, pickled, baked, smoked, cooked or largely made by them.

That means smoked fish, meats, bread, preserves, fudge and cakes beside jewellery, ceramics, candles, soaps and wood-turned pieces. It won Best Small Outdoor Market at the 2024 Great British Market Awards.

Car boot, farm and craft at the Vineyard on first Saturdays

Vineyard Compassion, a Coleraine charity, runs the Vineyard Market at its Hope Centre, 10 Hillmans Way, off the Ballycastle Road (BT52 2ED). It opens 9am to 1pm on the first Saturday of the month.

It is a car boot sale, farmers' market and craft fair in one, with more than 50 outdoor and 150 indoor and drive-in pitches. Adults pay £1, children go in free, and parking is free.

International and Christmas weekends on the Diamond

Market Place Europe brings a three-day International Market to the Diamond in late May, and a Christmas market on an early-December weekend, Friday to Sunday. Traders apply through a Market Place trader account.

Flowerfield Arts Centre in Portstewart holds its Christmas Craft Market from mid-November to just before Christmas, with no charge to get in. Portrush Town Hall on Mark Street holds craft fairs at Easter, in autumn and at Christmas.

From a holding list to a pitch on the Diamond

Download the Stall Holder Traders Application Form and the stallholder requirements from the council's Trade With Us page, and email them to [email protected]. Some product types are full, so you may wait on a holding list.

New makers can ask about Journey to Market, the council's mentoring course for first-time traders.

Selling on your own in a Causeway street needs the council's licence: £100 temporary, £290 stationary, £390 mobile. Apply 28 days ahead with public liability cover; phone 028 2766 0233.

A charter market since 1613

James I's charter of 1613 gave Coleraine markets on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The present Town Hall on the Diamond opened in 1859, on the site of the old market house, and the Speciality Market brought stalls back in 2006.
