Christmas market day at Enniskillen Castle

On the lights switch-on Saturday in late November, the castle grounds on Wellington Road hold a Christmas market from 11am to 5pm, with artisan food, crafts and local art. The council runs it with Urban Events NI.

The switch-on itself is a short walk away at the Diamond, with entertainment from 4.30pm, so one trip covers both. In 2025 the market ran 12pm to 4pm, so check the times each year.

The castle's spring and harvest markets

The Enniskillen International Spring Market fills the castle grounds by the River Erne from Friday to Sunday in mid-May. It opens 10am to 7pm on Friday and Saturday and 12pm to 6pm on Sunday. Market Place runs it.

In late October, Florence Court, the National Trust house south-west of town, holds a two-day Harvest Fair from 11am to 4pm with about 50 food and craft producers. Non-members pay admission.

Sundays at the Scout Centre and the Buttermarket studios

The Enniskillen Crafters Market has met on the second and fourth Sunday of the month, 11am to 4pm, at St Michael's Scout Centre. It has a Young Makers section and a charity table at each market.

The Buttermarket on Down Street, a dairy market of about 1835, is now 19 craft and design studios with a coffee shop. It opens Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5.30pm, all year.

Enniskillen's market rights go back to a patent of 1612 that allowed a Thursday market. The Buttermarket was marked for demolition in the 1980s, then reopened as a craft centre in 1991.

Getting a stall at a Fermanagh market

For council markets and events, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council uses an expression of interest form. Traders need £5 million public liability insurance, and local traders may get first choice when stands are short. Email [email protected] or phone 0300 303 1777.

The castle's big markets have their own operators. For the spring market, register on marketplace.co.uk and apply per event. For the Christmas market, book a pitch with Urban Events NI online.

Street trading on Fermanagh's named streets

The council licenses trading only on named sites, such as Main Street in Belleek and the Fairgreen in Lisnaskea. A fixed or mobile licence costs £100 a year; a temporary one £50, or £2.50 for a charity.

You can hold up to five temporary licences a year. Once your application is complete, the council has up to 12 weeks to decide, so apply early.

The 261 from Belfast and the castle car park

The Goldline 261 runs from Belfast Grand Central to Enniskillen Bus Station through Dungannon, a trip of a little over two hours. The bus station is a few minutes' walk from the castle.

There is a free car park opposite the castle entrance (BT74 7HL), but it fills fast on market days. Council pay-and-display car parks take RingGo.
